In an interview, when I’m asked, “Why do you like working in retail?” I usually say, “I really like helping people.” That’s not bull. Truly, honestly, I do like helping people. It’s pretty hard to make that sound genuine, though. It almost sounds like the stereotypical beauty pageant cliché: “I wish for world peace!”
This morning, I was talking with a family member about growing up and doing things in our church. That’s when it hit me. I’ve been volunteering for helpful roles since I was 10! I volunteered for the Lion’s Club glass drives once a month. In church, I was in the choir, bell choir, a junior deacon, an acolyte, and I served coffee at the monthly Donut Sunday.
What drives a child to do as much as possible at the same time??? I don’t know. I guess it’s my personality. For the past 20 years, it has slowed down because of my Fibro and CFS. But, things are changing.
That’s why I love coaching. I’m able to help so many more people than I could before. I had someone to help me and now I want to pay it forward.
